From his studio overlooking the Mississippi River north of Montrose, Mike Foley hears the vees of Canada geese echoing above the old growth trees where the Bald eagles perch while hunting. It's here, in this riparian setting on the Mississippi Flyway that the artist manipulates his digital photographs, making the appear similar to oil or acrylic paintings. Photographic subjects range from landscapes to machinery, from garden flowers to interesting people. His photographer's eye captures unexpected perspectives and extraordinary details in common images. Teaching in the Art Department at Iowa Wesleyan College since 1999, Mike Foley has combined his 30 years of graphics experience with the fine arts genre of digital photography. As technology and computer programs race to the public, Foley enhances his photographic images by using the latest techniques available to him. Married to his college sweetheart, Elaine, the Foleys have lived in Lee County for forty years. They are the parents of three adult children and two adult foster children. "This second half of my life is proving to be surprisingly exciting as my viewfinder captures everyday images from unusual perspectives. There is so much to see! I can't take enough pictures." Mike will be teaching Photography classes with Mary Sederberg.
