Digital Photography and Painting

Mary Sederburg and Mike Foley, Instructors

Turn everyday images into masterpieces that echo the genius of the world’s great painters, printmakers, and photographers.  You don’t have to be a Photoshop expert, but you must have a digital camera. Computers with Photoshop will be provided. The textbook is Photoshop Fine Art Effects Cookbook by John Beardsworth, published by O’Reilly Digital Studio (ISBN 0-596-10062-0).    Mike Foley will lead you through exercises on the computer with Adobe Photoshop software to turn an ordinary photograph into a photo painting. Time will be allotted for a photo shoot in the beautiful Van Buren County village of Keosauqua. We will return to the high school to download photos and continue the creative process.    A large format printer will be available for printing 12” x 18” photos from your images.  Additional prints may be completed for an additional charge.    Mary Sederburg will be providing students with digital photography jargon and what it means; tips on holding digital cameras, landscape photography, use of apertures, ISO’s, flash usage, low light digital shooting, macro shooting tips, different digital shooting modes, under and over exposure, white balance, taking sharp digital images and other important information needed in becoming familiar with digital photography in a easy to understand format.  Composition and other creative ideas will be discussed.
